SILENT WITNESS
David E. Garlock
I took a walk one sunny day
With troubled mind and soul
Across the World, I wandered far
My aim, to find a goal
I knew that someone, somewhere knew
What Life is all about
And I was lost in Life's great sea
I thought I'd surely drown
I found an Oak that very day
So tall it touched the sky
Its dark brown wrinkles told of age
And then I knew that I
Had found the One who surely knows
The Secrets I must find
I placed my hand against the bark
And then I spoke my mind
What Secrets do you have, O Tree?
Confined within your bark
You've stood and learned for many years
And silently remarked
Of wind, and rain, of summer drought
And birds upon your bough
Of those who shared your gentle shade
And I, who rests here now
For I have lost the Way of Life
That many know so well
I'm off the path and drifting off
I've caught a glimpse of Hell
Afraid of death and what may come
My world, a sea of doubt
I've suffered wind, the rain and now
I dread the coming drought
Tell me now, O Gallant One
Who stands against the sky
How can I hope to learn of Life?
How can I be as wise
As you are now, so many years
A witness throughout Time
Without a word, you carried on
The Secrets locked inside
But here you are, so old and weak
Drooping toward the ground
You know these things, I know you must
I beg you, tell me know
Why bluebirds sing, why children play
Their games in summer streets
But you speak not, and now I know
I'll have to go and seek
One who seeks knowledge must be prepared to accept it.
I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now.
Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth
Jesus
The great awareness comes slowly, piece by piece. The path of spiritual growth is a path of lifelong learning. The experience of spiritual power is basically a joyful one.
M. Scott Peck
Is not prayer a study of truth, a sally of the soul into the unfound infinite? No man ever prayed heartily without learning something.
Ralph Waldo Emerson
Don't think of God in terms of forms, because forms are limited and God is unlimited.
C.S. Lewis
To be conscious of Being, you need to reclaim consciousness from the mind. This is one of the most essential tasks on your spiritual journey.
Eckhart Tolle
The authentic self is the soul made visible.
Sarah Ban Breathnach
Each of us is here to discover our true Self…
that essentially we are spiritual beings
who have taken manifestation in physical form…
that we‘re not human beings that have occasional spiritual experiences…
that we’re spiritual beings that have occasional human experiences.
